[MBZ] LIST MOM was OT: other effects of wuhan CV

2020-03-21 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
While the subject matter of this post was not political in it’s nature, the
vehicle in which it was delivered clearly was. As a result the list member who
posted it has been placed on moderation.

This is a reminder to all that while topical posts are welcome, the vehicle in
which they are delivered is unwelcome if it is political or inflammatory in
nature. There have been numerous complaints from list members regarding the
politicizing of subject matter in recent days, and as a result the List Mom
will take a very strong position against such posts and the members who post
them.

Let’s stick to Mercedes subject matter whenever possible. If you’re going to
post something topical, be sure to read it first and remove any political or
inflammatory content. There will be no exceptions.

Thank you,

List Mom

Re: [MBZ] List Mom

2019-11-13 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Diesels put out less co2 than gas motors. That is the only reason they are
still sold in europe, because they have co2 emissions standards to comply
with. The CEO of Daimler has said that CO2 emissions are the reason diesels
will continue to be offered in the lineup for some time. So I dont think it
is true that diesels are blamed for climate change. And Mercedes is not
stopping diesel production due to climate concerns. Quite the opposite.

It has been suggested that this is the wrong list for climate change
discussion, and I agree. Climate change has nothing to do with why I am on
the list and sorting through this non-topical content is a waste of my
time, whether I agree with what is being posted or not. If I want to debate
that stuff, I will subscribe to a climate change list.

Guenther Schwab, an Austrian, aligned himself with a group that best matched
his conservationist beliefs in the 1920’s. Deep into blood and soil being
bonded and radical environmental thought. He wrote a book in 1958, "Dance with
the Devil”. It preached about rising CO2 and became the guide book for the
Climate Change socialists. An inconvenient truth is that a TN senator became
enthralled by his theories, the same as the guy who wrote a book about “His
Struggles”, 80 years before. There were many other fellow travelers over the
last century and more espousing radical ideals, Marx, Lenin, and bleating sheep
following along. Much like the coal rollers with holes in their hoods that
make Pierre unhappy

Discussions on climate change are indirectly automotive in nature as cars are
blamed for it. The question I keep asking those who preach that climate change
is man-made is why are the polar ice caps on Mars melting? I never get an
answer. As far as I’m concerned, melting Martian polar ice caps is all the
evidence I need to believe that man-made climate change is a complete and utter

Well said Herr Mann.   And exactly WHY it IS germain to this list.

G Mann via Mercedes wrote on 11/12/19 5:24 PM:

I would like to make an "al bore" comment that does have Mercedes content.
While having nothing to do with politics.

The whole specter of "global warming" as it has been sold to the public has
had a huge impact on how Diesel engines, thus Mercedes cars, has been and
are now perceived as in "Diesels pollute" and "It smells bad thus it must
be spewing toxic waste into the air" arguments.. which are then segued into
the whole "global warming argument"...
The result has been a huge downturn in Mercedes Diesel production of future
designs, less support for older Mercedes in the way of parts and repair
shops, and increased cost for both... all as the result of the whole
"global warming" arguments made by influential individuals in the public
forums.

As intelligent people, regardless of political opinions held, we all look
at facts more than fantasy, and the public arguments made by those of the
Al Gore persuasion are now failing the fact check criteria of sound

Strong evidence has been brought forward the foundational premise was both

I agree that it’s not political for the most part, but bringing a former
politician who has a very clearly and hotly contested agenda will cause the
exchanges to devolve into unpleasant rhetoric between the various parties.

It’s not germane to the topics here, and you’re making assumptions for others
that you have no right to do so. I’m being preemptive. Don’t like it? You’re
welcome to take over the responsibilities of running the list.

don't think so, because they said the same thing before and after the

"Inconvenient truth," movie and everything albore and his cronies say is
BS. They have tried to imtimidate and stifle real science and truth.
The lies have been exposed. THe data manipulation to "show" what they

Especially the "scientific" studies. They start with "we thing the earth is
warming and are going to prove it by."
Real science is "We think the earth is warming and seek to disprove our
hypothesis by."

If you go looking for what you expect that is what you will mostly find because
you will ignore results that don't match your results. Thats why I like
"Freakonomics" because he starts by trying to disprove his own ideas and only
accepts results that can't be disproven.

2018-02-26 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
OK, here's my last input. I look forward to discussing responses to what I
have posted.

Here is the abstract for the paper behind the petition I posted about
earlier.

ABSTRACT

A review of the research literature concerning the environmental
consequences of increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide leads to the
conclusion that increases during the 20th and early 21st centuries have
produced no deleterious effects upon Earth's weather and climate. Increased
carbon dioxide has, however, markedly increased plant growth. Predictions
of harmful climatic effects due to future increases in hydrocarbon use and
minor greenhouse gases like CO2 do not conform to current experimental
knowledge. The environmental effects of rapid expansion of the nuclear and
hydrocarbon energy industries are discussed.

http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm

Over 130 scientific and academic papers are used to support this paper.

I certainly hope that we reasonable people can now agree that there is no
scientific consensus and that a aseptically response to hysteria about
"global warming" is a reasonable and well supported response, and should
not be met with ridicule and name calling.

Re: [MBZ] LIST MOM Re: OT a little truth for the albore crowd.

2018-02-26 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Here is a very short scientific explanation of why CO2 is not a greenhouse
gas. Please tell me if you can find any errors in this paper.

*Why MAN MADE Global Warming is Ridiculous*
*Burr Passenheim (Ph.D. Physics)*

The earth's temperature is changing, and has always been changing. And
mankind's contribution is insignificant.

The earth receives all of its energy from the sun in the form of sunlight.
To us that light looks white. A physicist would say it is "blackbody"
radiation from an object (the sun) at about 6000-deg(Kelvin). A rainbow
shows that "white" light is actually composed of colors from violet to red.
Visible light's spectrum peaks at a wavelength about 0.5 microns (green).
At the top of our atmosphere the solar intensity is about 1 (kilowatt per
square meter).

The sun heats the earth to a temperature [roughly 300 deg(K)] at which
temperature the earth re-radiates an equal amount of power. A 300 deg(K)
blackbody radiates power in the Infrared (IR) i.e. at wavelengths greater
than 4 microns , with a peak intensity at about 10.0 microns.

All this is necessary for the earth to have a stable temperature (neither
boil nor freeze)

The earth's temperature is dominated by the sun's intensity, which is not
constant, and the earths orbit and tilt, which also vary. But the earth's
atmosphere does have a meaningful role in Global Temperature.

All incident Ultra-Violet (UV) light from the sun is absorbed in earth's
upper atmosphere by Oxygen [mainly Ozone ( O3)] and does not heat the
earth..

All infrared radiation beyond about 20 microns is absorbed by water vapor,
also called humidity, and is trapped in the atmosphere. . Humidity is the
most important greenhouse gas. Humidity is invisible to humans.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a gas that is ESSENTIAL to all life on earth.
Animals breath in Oxygen (O2) and breath out Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
[respiration]. Plants absorb CO2 and release O2 [photosynthesis]. Without
CO2 there would be no O2 and vise versa, so neither plants nor animals
could exist.

CO2 does have one significant absorption band in the Infrared (IR), at
about 15 microns. CO2 is VERY opaque at that wavelength. Virtually all IR
radiated by the earth at 15 microns is absorbed in about 10 meters (about
30 feet) of air. So raising or lowering the concentration of CO2 does next
to nothing to how opaque the atmosphere is at the 15 microns. You can not
absorb more than everything.

Consider this visible analogy. If an object is black, it means that it has
absorbed all the visible light falling on it. If you add another coat of
black paint, it is not any blacker. It can not absorb more than everything!

To be scrupulously accurate, while all 15-micron IR is 100% absorbed, the
width of the 15 micron band does increase and decrease as the CO2
concentration waxes and wanes. But the absorption of the 15-micron band
increases as the logarithm of the CO2 concentration. This means that to
double the absorption at 15 micron, you need to raise the CO2 concentration
10- fold. To triple the absorption, you must raise the CO2 concentration
100-fold. Keep in mind that CO2 has always been much less important than
humidity, as a green house gas.

And, it is also true that the earth's temperature and atmospheric CO2 seem
to rise and fall together. But if you look a bit closer, the temperature
always "leads" the CO2 concentration. Which means the earth's temperature
is the "cause" and CO2 concentration the "effect", not the other way
around. The reason is, that CO2 is soluble in water (think of carbonated
beverages), and as the oceans warm up they "outgas" CO2. When the oceans
cool down again (ice ages) they reabsorb the CO2.

So it is not worth spending money to reduce man-made CO2, because that is
not the problem…if there is a problem.

Have we hit a time warp and returned to 1978 or something?

I don't remember very much doubt amongst the scientist at Forestry Canada when
I was working there as a post-doc in 1990. When I was an undergraduate in the
late 70's there was considerable discussion about whether man made climate
change was real, but by the late 80's the people doing research and looking at
data were completely convinced. By data, not religious exhortation or
indoctrination.

The actual argument about global warming has been settled in the research
community for a generation, it's politicians who raise non-tenable objections,
not scientists.

This “theory” of a link between man and climate change might become more
plausible when it ceases to be a platform or agenda which stems from one
particular political party. And more so when it originates from a real

To believe the analysis that lacks a clear link between human-generated
greenhouse gas emissions and a change in the climate of the planet
isn't really science: it suggests a doctrinaire refusal to
accept an inconvenient truth.

Respectfully, I do not agree.
1. Snopes.com has a protracted history of comparing applet to oranges and
labeling it as "fact". Which they have yet again done in this link. The
entirety of the rebuttal is focused on CO2 production in a "presumed
volume" by "a " representative volcano. Further, the entire rebuttal is
written around only CO2. Again.. apples to oranges called "representative
fact", when the volume of gasses and emissions from a volcanic eruption.are
composed from a large volume of multiple gasses and particulates, ALL of
which have lasting effect of the "ecology".
2. The writers zeal to discredit a book lost in the dustbin of library
science is easily exceeded by his/her need to prove his/her chosen
dialogue, without proper scientific consideration of any material except
CO2, which the scientific community at large freely agree is only one of a
host of "greenhouse gasses" ... ie. Remember Freon? What happened to all
the Freon which was making a hole in the ozone? How about sulfur dioxide,
or nitro us oxide? How about the effect of millions of cubic feet of smoke
and dust on the solar heating of the atmosphere? Just to list a few of the
materials a proper scientific investigation would look at.

Inconvenient truth. There are currently 25 major volcanic eruptions around
the "Ring of Fire". Each day, ONE of those volcano produce more emissions
of "greenhouse" gas than mankind has since the dawn of the "machinery
age".

Sorry, mankind, you are just not that important, in the master scheme of
things global.

2018-02-25 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The hypocrisy of the green movement is astronomical though. Al Gore's
environmental footprint is massive. His platform appears to be YOU need to
reduce so I can continue to spread the gospel. If we all lived like him this
world would be screwed. GW Bush lives a much more modest life which ironically
was one of Gore's problems in 2000...

But to turn a blind eye to all the quantitative analysis that supports a

You are labeled a "denier" to associate you with holocaust deniers and thus to
label you as a nazi or nazi sympathizer. When this type of verbiage is used in
lieu of an argument based on facts and logic, you can be sure that the user
