For a VW you can get a tune to remove the security requirements. Important if
you were transplanting the engine into a different vehicle.

I’m thinking Ms Chen’s familiarity with English might be limited but
I did a very brief research and it appears the “facelift” cars which are after
96? Use a chip on the blade key that has to talk to the EIS. These are what are
apparently unobtainium from MB. I don’t know if there are any aftermarket
solutions. Got me thinking too if you could get a blade key
Key failures can be tracked to two things, typically:
1.) Bad battery (don’t use cheap import batteries, they often don’t work)
2.) Broken inductor on the circuit board in the key
Number two is not uncommon and is an easy fix. In the very “end” of the key,
that is, the part that gets inserted
My friend damaged his 1999 E320 key and was unable to start the car. The
local dealer required that he present the vehicle in person with
title/registration in order to make a duplicate key. Car was parked in a
garage inaccessible to tow trucks, so there was no way to do this.

even hard keys.
