out was green. It came that way been in there at least 2 - 3 years. Any damage is done, as is the effective life of the additive package. Flush and replace it with something better, and pray that nothing bad has happened already. (Corrosion, resulting in clogging, overheating, and/or leaking.) -- Jim

[MBZ] MB coolant and the 'green stuff'
I now have MB 'pail yellow' coolant in my 85 300SD. However the stuff I took out was green. It came that way been in there at least 2 - 3 years. If this stuff is detrimental to the radiator what should I be looking for? Something obvious like leaks, or some thing less obvious like clogs and / or loss of efficiency? IN EUROPE there are about a dozen makers of anti-freeze that meet Mercedes specs. All of the MB anti-freeze sold in the US is made by Valvoline - most is sold to Mercedes and the remainder is sold as Zerex G-05. The Peak Lifetime meets the Mercedes specs as well. NOTHING Prestone makes comes even close (despite their claim to the contrary - look for the Mercedes spec number on their data sheet - it isn't there)! Marshall Now G-05 is not the only antifreeze product from Zerex, right? Must be sure that it is G-05? MB coolant is a pale yellow like grease... MB wheel bearing grease is an almost neon green, like "regular" american antifreeze... Go figure :) -j.

Recently I serviced the radiator hoses on my 85 300SD. I ordered the MB coolant from rusty. I was a bit disappointed that the coolant is almost clear. A very pail yellow, I guess I am just use to having colored green coolant. The point here is what over the counter coolants are safe in the car?
