Get a siding guy ro bend a drip edge on the flashing. It looks like you need 12-14" stuffed up there. THat means you need to pull the nails from 3 courses of shingles. I doubt you can do that without ruining shingles. If you can pull soffit and grind off the protruding nails under the

Yes you want a metal drip edge that goes up under the shingles then hangs over the fascia that the gutter is attached to. It should be installed before the shingles are put on. In your case you can slide some flashing up under the edge of the shingles and either have it hang over that back

You know instead of ripping that all out I may try and get some flashing and insert it up under the shingles along the end he to raise up the dip and overhang the gutters a bit. I would really like to get those lead guard gutters and let them do the whole thing, but that is probably way more
