First check to see if it is the rare ZUNDFOGLE engine. If so, list the engine on bay and buy another car. That engine is worth $10,000 or 15,000 easy! Driving our Peterbilt to Albuquerque one day, a gal in a 4-wheeler moved to the right too close to the truck, so I had to hit the brake a little. The next time she passed (I don't recall why I passed her), I was ready and honked the air horn as she started to move right at the same distance. Somehow in traffic I passed her a third time. When she passed me again she moved to the right lane quite a distance ahead of the truck. I was pleasantly surprised she learned so quickly. I haven't been in the English subforum on the CrazyFinn site in years. Does anybody know the maximum efficient power from either of the two 617 turbos? The Finns told me that my VNT from a 2005 CDI became too inefficient above 250hp (I think the CDI makes about 220hp stock, so it's a perfectly sized turbo for the car it came from). I wouldn't be surprised if the turbo in my 1979 SD was good for 150hp or more. I bet it's not yet beginning to work hard at 110hp. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] More FB loosering
My top 25 mile average in the Cruzer is 64.1 mpg, might have hit 65 if I didn't have to use the brakes for a yellow light as I rolled into town. Then I turned around and went home, could barely manage 56mpg on the return trip, so the 64 was the product of a tailwind. But nearly 60mpg round trip is better than I could have done setting my cruze control at the 55mph minimum. What works for me on the freeway, at least without significant crosswinds, is to set up 150-200' behind a semi rig. That way I get better MPG at 63-67 mph than I can manage at 55 on my own. The semi gives a bit of a draft effect even at that distance, and it keeps most of the traffic from cutting me off because they just stay in the left lane until they pass the truck. For some reason, about ten percent of the drivers around here think lane discipline means crossing the centerline while you're still beside the car you're passing, in order to get back in the right lane ASAP, even when there's absolutely nobody behind you in the left lane. They do it to truckers too, which must be real fun when your new truck has automatic braking. Re: [MBZ] More FB loosering
Which reminds me, I've been watching the instant read mpg gauge on my Jetta and learning how to drive to get the best mileage, its raised my average by about 5mpg and I think theres more to gain even without really going into hypermiling, read as driving everyone around me crazy. The biggest change was limiting my speed to 65mph or less, that probably bought me 2mpg by itself. The difference between 80 and 70 was nearly nothing but getting to 65 or less was a big jump, I think 55 will probably gain me some more but I would want to commute outside of rush hour to do it... -Curt On Sunday, June 23, 2019, 3:08:10 AM EDT, fmiser via Mercedes wrote: > Floyd wrote: > Since I have to do mechanical work anyway is there anyway > possible to make a 80 300d non turbo get 40-45 mpg overdrive > transmission different air intake whatever please help thanks in > advance Yup. I bet if you put a TDI engine in it you could come close... IIRC the 123 turbos get better fuel economy than the non-turbos which makes sense, IIRC (again) diesel engines are like 30% more efficient with a turbo than without. -Curt On Saturday, June 22, 2019, 4:53:03 PM EDT, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote: Since I have to do mechanical work anyway is there anyway possible to make a 80 300d non turbo get 40-45 mpg overdrive transmission different air intake whatever please help thanks in advance -- --FT ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
