Re: [MBZ] Moving a storage shed

2022-07-03 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Bob,

Having made a number of moves in the last couple of years, I can tell you that
$50/man/hour is about the going rate everywhere.

That being said, I’ve found some really good loaders/unloaders using the UHaul
web site, where they can post ads and get rated by the customers. I’ve kept the
contact information for the ones that did good jobs (and that was most of them)
for future reference. The real key for a loader is finding the guy with the
“Tetris” skills who can get everything into the truck without damage and making
the best use of the space. That’s the guy you want to tip heavily.

Between the moves back and forth to Indiana and the one to Flagstaff, I don’t
think we incurred any damage to speak of on the contents. Those were moves I
did with a UHaul truck but hired loaders and unloaders to do the heavy work.

Regardless, it’s money very, very well spent from a time and sore back/injury
standpoint. Having a blown out back before you even get into or out of a place
is self-defeating. I’m not even factoring in the weather/climate.

Re: [MBZ] Moving a storage shed

2022-07-03 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
Part of aging wisely is learning your limits. I’d say move it with your wallet.
Moving that shed seems to be pretty black and white.

Employing my above advice, we just paid to have an outfit move my MIL from
independent living to an assisted living studio 2.5 miles away (forecast highs
of 110ish and humid, only Mrs. Bob and I doing the work…at 62 and 61
respectively [don’t tell her I divulged her age] swayed my decision).

Never having utilized movers I have learned moving household goods seems to be
an effing racket. The old girl doesn’t have much stuff:

*reclining loveseat (main reason I didn’t want to mover her stuff again)
*small end table
*queen bed, headboard, night stand
*small kitchen table with two chairs
*small hutch
*43” tv and tv stand
*three large suitcases full of clothes

The most reasonable estimate I got was the rate of $199/hour for three dudes
and a 26’ truck. They reckoned three hours to do the job. Plus…a 16% fuel
surcharge.
Long story short….0830 to 1045, $1055 plus a broken leg on the damn recliner.
Tomorrow morning phone class with the gloves off will begin.

Exactly. Not only that, your time has value, too. Think about how long it would
take you to do it, not to mention all of the possibilities where things could
go south.

This is something you may be better off transferring the risk for. Unless they
will only do it with some sort of hold harmless/waive all liability, it’s worth
it.

There are all sorts of “what ifs?” when you move it, none of which are very
pleasant to consider. Let someone else (who probably does this on a daily

So use a chain and drag it out to where you can
get to both sides. Should be easy if it is on
skids like most of them.

concrete pads under it one end at a time with the old track loader. Worked real good

Cut some of those oaks down to use as rollers - you need three - two under
it and one to shuffle from the rear to the front as it progresses onto the
trailer.
