Replace the foam - the new part has been improved so it's now rubber that
won't rot so quickly. If that fails to solve the problem, swap in another
PB ACC moduie.

Failure to regulate a proper temperature is usually due to a rotted foam
hose under the dash. Hardware store pipe insulation may be used to replace
the rotted-out segment.
On that system, the common failure points, in no particular order:
1) Torn monovalve diaphragm
2) Cracked solder joints insi
The heat in my 85 300D is difficult to regulate each time I start out. If I
have the temp regulator set for anything other than all the way cold it blows
major heat until I rotate the regulator all the way to cold, then wait for it
