What about operating temperature? When my '85 190D thermostat stuck
open, around town (short trips) fuel consumption in the winter dropped
from the high 30s to the mid 20s!

thermostat) but it idles a bit low (650).
Is there a test for leaky injectors or should I simply replace them all?

If the injectors have never been properly cleaned, now would be good
time Check your yellow pages for a Bosch diesel injection shop near you.
Alternatively, if you can't function without the car for the day or two it
will probably take, see if Kaleb has a used set you can buy and have

Brake hoses with internal swelling can cause the brakes to drag.
Wheels are cool, brakes fine - I maintain this car religiously.

car, we routinely get 29 mpg on the 126
SD, and 31 mpg on the 124 D.
