Yes, that was my thinking as I was driving to Albuquerque. I passed a lot
of cars doing noticably less than the speed limit. I realized that though
I was being affected by the wind, others were being affected much more. I
was one of the few doing the speed limit (75 mph). It was REALLY windy.

Primewell is Firestone's private label brand made by GITI in China and
Indonesia. They are supposedly about as good as it gets in the cheap tire
realm.

MMM, thanks, the Nexen prices are very nice. However I really don't like noisy
tires.

Usually I devote most of a day to research on Tire Rack before I make a
decision.

Craig, I wonder about the alignment job if the car was difficult in cross winds.

I've got to replace tires on both my 124 cars, but I don't want to pay Michelin
prices. I think our Infiniti has Sumitomo (sp?) tires now that are decent, may
get those.

The Nokian WRs that Bluebell has been sporting for the last few years
were worn down past the wear bars, so I decided it was about time to
replace them, particularly since I will be doing a lot of driving down to
Albuquerque for classes this summer.

Not having the benefit of the wisdom of the list since my emails were not
getting through, I decided on a set of Michelin Defenders in 195/70R14.
Their load and speed ratings are 91T. They have a UTQG rating of 820 A B
and a 90,000 mile warranty.

Discount tire here in Santa Fe had them for $104 each.

After buying the tires, I drove about 3 miles to an alignment shop
recommended by the local Independent and had the front end aligned (it
needed it).

They did really well in my 75 mph trip to Albuquerque and back today. It
was very windy with cross-winds, which made driving quite tiring. That,
though, wasn't the fault of the tires.

Hope those work well for you, and welcome back.

I have been watching the Farstone schnee tars on the back of the 81
240D closely, as they are probably 17 years old and weather checked.
Yesterday I drove to work, then around noon went out to do an
errend. Before I got 100 years, I had a flat. The tire was ripped
about 2" radially, and looked like it was cut, the tear was so clean.
Time for some new tars.

I came home and robbed a pair from the white 240D last night. Those
are new tars, starfire, 195/70-15 Something like 480 A B I think
they are a BFG cheap brand. A lot different form most of the tires I
have been buying that need only 1/4 or 1/5 oz to balance them. These
have some big weights on them.

Those or primewell, a cheep badyear brand are all that seem to be
available locally.

So, now before the white car goes on the road, it will need a pair of
shoes also.
