Re: [MBZ] O.T. Acura's Cold Tapping
One thermostat. If it was used for local travel and the motor was never warmed up I could see that. Didn't thing the EGR valves would cause that. Never changing the oil could do it too. When people pay $100k (in 1992 dollars) for a car, they seem to either take it to the dealer when recommended, (look for the stamps in the book) or ignore it. Re: [MBZ] O.T. Acura's Cold Tapping
I bought the 1992 600SEL with a tick in the motor three years ago. Replaced all the wirng under the hood. Started to deal with the ticking earlier this summer. Dropped the oil pan and it was FULL of carbon upto the oil pickup, never a good sign. Cleaned it out, significant drop in lifter noise. Put a can of Seafoam in the oil ran it for a 1000 miles did an oil change and noise was better. Guys on Benzworld were talking about a site http://www.Auto-Rx.com selling a product called auto-Rx. Bought the recommended amount added it to the oil. Noise is almost completely gone. Will do the flush and another treatment and should be done. Re: [MBZ] O.T. Acura's Cold Tapping
That's an easy fixwell easy up to the point where I have to convince her to drive my car for a couple of days. "Your cars are always so slow" and "the kids call it the Mustardmobile you know..." A little Techron and a couple of pretend-like-I'm-late trips out there...sweet. Thanks, Mr. Jim. [MBZ] O.T. Acura's Cold Tapping
Had to schlep the youngest girl child to cheer practice this morning. The spousal unit's '87 Legend, 189K miles now, was parked behind my car so I drove the Legend for the first time in awhile. Knowing my wife had driven it last I first turned off the AC and radio, then started the engine. I instantly got an unnerving tap, tap, tap. I shut 'er off and checked the oil and it was SAT. I restarted 'er and the tapping (you all know this tapping.) continued. So I took off for the school as the tapping continued. The moment the temp gage came off the cold peg, the tapping stopped.
