You can get steaks anywhere. What you want is barbeque, real stuff. On Kirby near the SW Freeway (59) is Goode Co. BBQ, good Texas Q in an interesting venue. If you want something more suthrun, right across the street is the Armadillo Palace, Goode Co Tacqueria for TexMex, and just down Westpark past the tacqueria is Goode Co Seafood. A couple of blocks north of the freeway is a street called Richmond, if you go down a couple miles just before the 610 West Loop there is Luling City Market which is the real deal Q, I prefer it to Goode Co as Goode uses mesquite and Luling is oak or hickory, which is a bit milder and sweeter. Luling is also an interesting place, just paper on a tray for your Q by the weight. Goode Co though -- the brisket on jalapeno cheese bread is enough to make you holler, and their sausages are awesome. Wash your Q down with some Shiners and you will be in heaven. The local Benz dealer is nearby too, you can pop in for a new one? Right there at Kirby/Richmond is Papasito's for Mex, not too bad. There are some Pappas Seafood Places around too, pretty good. And If you are still in the mood for a steak, out Westheimer a bit near the Galeria is Pappas Steak House http://pappasbros.com/location/ sorta high end but VERY good food and wine. Check the link, Pappas have a bunch of places around with different styles of food, all pretty good, some high-end and some just regular restaurants. If you want some good fun Texas entertainment, Blancos is not far from any of those places (and right near 2 good Benz shops) on W Alabama. Most nights (except Sat) they have some bands and buckets of Shiners for cheap. It is a total roadhouse dive in the most expensive part of town, too funny. These places are all like 10 min from downtown, very easy to get to. Near where I used to live. If you like Italian, Thai, Cuban, Cajun, even basic diner fare, there are some good places too. Or anything else, let me know, I checked most all the good restaurants out! I think there is a good steak place called Ruth Chris. I also have eaten @ the Palm in Houston, It is also rather pricey. There is a really good seafood place in Galveston called Gaido's. It is one of my very favorites. Let me know if you come to Galveston, and will try to join you. What was the name of the BBQ place in Galveston that used to be a corner store way back? Did it survive Ike? It was a locals place not a tourist joint. The food was really good, but the people were great! I think there is a good steak place called Ruth Chris. I also have eaten @ the Palm in Houston, It is also rather pricey.
