If it's a bypass lopper, use the round side on the concave blade.
Just sharpen the beveled side. Maybe knock off any projections on the flat

I use a whetstone with medium grit on one,side & fine on the other side &
sharpen it by hand. Used to watch my grandfather use a whetstone on his
scythe
