great question Fred. potatoes used to be the primary agricultural product
in RI. Hence the popularity of the "Mr Potato Head" toy.

now all all the potato fields are turf fields
for new houses & even Red Sox Fenway zpark is grown here.

so RI grandkids question -does this make them turf rats? or grass tots?

If conditions are good (no wrecks, no construction) the toll road skyway option
is 10 minutes faster from I65 to downtown. Conditions are rarely good.

I almost always took the Dan Ryan/I-94/I-65 route back to Indiana. The
Skyway/I-90 tolls are expensive but sometimes worth it as it does save time.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Totaling your car in Mass.

2021-10-20 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Yeah, we figured that out after a 4+ hour trip around the TriState alone from
WI to Indiana on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, 1988. It was a parking lot,
I remember that trip vividly to this day. On the return I went up the Skyway
and through Chicago and was amazed at the time it cut off the trip, probably
close to an hour. That became our go-to route for the next 8 years.

When we were returning to WI late one evening and driving through the beautiful
environs of northeast IN/East Chicago, my oldest son, who was about 3-4 years
old at the time, was looking at the post-apocalyptic looking industrial
landscape.

“Dad, is this what Hell looks like?”

“No, son, Hell smells better.”

Driving the TriState Tollway for the first time was a life-changing experience.

Then I got smart and started using the Kennedy/Dan Ryan/Skyway to transit
Chicago going from WI to IN or vice-versa. The only drawback is driving through
the Southside, but I was always packing when I did.

It's because most folks there are transplants so there isn't a driving style

A ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court means auto owners

who

can show their car is worth less after an auto accident, even after it's
been repaired, are entitled to compensation from their insurer.Charles
Krupa/Associated Press

In a victory for consumers, the state’s highest court ruled Tuesday that
automobile insurers that are liable for the cost of repairs to a vehicle
damaged in a crash must also pay for any diminished market value

resulting

from the accident.

The ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court means consumers

now

may be able to recover money from insurers beyond the cost of fully
repairing their vehicle.

That additional payment is intended to compensate owners for a loss in
value because cars and trucks that have been involved in accidents
sometimes fetch less money when they are resold.

Citing the language from a previously decided case, the SJC wrote, “The

law

attempts to put the consumer in a position as nearly as possible

equivalent

to his (or her) position” before the crash.
--
--

A consumer is “entitled” to be “made whole and compensated for what he

has

lost,” the SJC wrote.

Hailed as a victory for consumers but there is no doubt that the cost of
insurance will increase to cover the cost to the insurance company, so
not much of a victory.

In a victory for consumers, the state’s highest court ruled Tuesday that
automobile insurers that are liable for the cost of repairs to a vehicle
damaged in a crash must also pay for any diminished market value resulting
from the accident.

The ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court means consumers now
may be able to recover money from insurers beyond the cost of fully
repairing their vehicle.

That additional payment is intended to compensate owners for a loss in
value because cars and trucks that have been involved in accidents
sometimes fetch less money when they are resold.

Citing the language from a previously decided case, the SJC wrote, “The law
attempts to put the consumer in a position as nearly as possible equivalent
to his (or her) position” before the crash.
