Why??? We drove a regular car to the Grand Canyon with no issues. It looked
like the employees were provided with vehicles to drive for work . . .
It’s not the drive out there, it’s the fact that there’s no one to service it
if he has problems. At best the closest place is in Flagstaff.
He won’t be driving to work. The NPS provides housing for most of its
employees at the Canyon, and he’ll be working below the rim, so he’ll be
Pretty rough.

As for the POS Toyota, the youngest son is heading out to the Grand Canyon for
a job with the NPS. Never occurred to me that I might get someone who would
swap me for the 400E for a halfway decent truck I could give

Is it falling-apart rusty, probably-leaks rusty, or just visual rusty?

Thanks, Rick!
This is what I’ve heard so far:
-190k
-Timing belt service was done 10k miles ago.
-New radiator 10k miles ago.
-New battery 10k miles ago.
-Front brakes upgraded to Tundra calipers, rotors, SS lines (stocks are very
prone to warping) 20k~ miles
-Rear brakes service (cylinders,
Should be good for over 350k miles with proper maintenance. Cycle it through 4
high, 4 low, every month, they have a tendency to fail if not used. They have
a near cult following, not unlike Mercedes classics. Take the Toyota and
$1,500- $2,000 in trade, and you have a fair deal.
Thanks!
I’m rolling through a bunch of Toyota forums and from what I can see the 96 is
a “3rd generation” 4Runner and the last of its kind. Reliability looks good as
one might expect for anything Toyota and the known issues are pretty minor
things and easy fixes.
I’ll continue to listen for
those who have em generally love em. Always want way more than they are
worth. (toadas in general) 4 runner is really a car that can be
licensed as a truck. not for hauling anything, but can pull any trailer
your car can. In the rust belt, the tin cans rust out soon. in
non-salt
Got a WAO from my 400E’s CL ad to trade for a 1996 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 with a V6
and manual transmission. No details from the offerer yet, but the youngest has
been looking for a truck in anticipation of being rehired by the NPS out at the
Grand Canyon, and this might be an opportunity to get
