Undiagnosed strut failure on my Jetta caused the fronts to rapidly wear. Now
that I have replaced them the tire pressure monitoring nanny is unhappy. I
think this car has the more primitive tire pressure monitoring system where
it's actually monitoring rotation rate and comparing the wheels,
Either that or just carry them in as you suggested. I’ve done that on a couple
of cars with my local tire guys. They don’t seem to care as far as the
application if you carry in. You just tell them what tires you want and they do
the rest.

So I realized today that the tires on the Element had been neglected as
far as regular rotation. As a result, the fronts were significantly more
worn than the rears.
Reading about how the AWD works on that car, it's normally FWD with a
hydraulic clutch that engages the rear wheels when needed.
