Re: [MBZ] Opinions: 1999 Mercedes Benz 320E 4matic Wagon Dark Blue w/tan interior
Might be a better deal than my $2000 one with parchment interior and 235k miles if you get it for $5k or so. I had to have the seller take mine to an indy shop for transmission and steering work before I could drive it home, so I had $3k into a car that needed tires by the time I had it in my driveway. Aside from some light bubbles at a corner of the sunroof, mine is rust free after a hard life in NH and MA. Make sure the transmission doesn't do anything odd. Most electronic problems with trans can be fixed with a $200 conductor plate and $100 worth of ATF. Probably a $700 job at the dealer. It's got a pop up sunroof, does the roof retract smoothly, and pop up too? Do the displays for climate control and radio work? Mine have a lot of dead LCD segments. As with any ACC car, make sure the climate control functions as intended. How old are the accumulators in the rear suspension? Pay attention to any warnings from the instrument cluster. When do they say it was last serviced? When does the dash display say it needs another service? Mitch, The present owner has no service records, but besides the door dings the car looks really clean and well maintained. It's originally from Greenwich Connecticut so I am hoping to call Mercedes Dealers in the area and see if they will release service records. I assume he used a dealer, The radio screen has a slight crack and discoloration but works. Hopefully this does not get worse. Hi Guys, I am looking to purchase a 1999 Mercedes Benz 320E 4matic wagon with 97K. The asking price is $6,500 but I think I can get it for $5,000. Clean car fax no accidents. It was an estate car garaged kept according to the seller who worked for the wealthy owner. He said it was dealer serviced by the original owner but has no history or records. He is selling because his wife wants a new car and was going to trade it in but the dealer is offering wasn't offering him much. Second owner it has a quite a few door dings and dents but nothing too bad. Everything works. New A/C compressor. There is condensation in one of the headlights so that might have to be replaced. I would appreciate any opinions Was there any major issues with that year and model car? Is there anything I should be checking before making a deal? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated asap. He is not doing a hard sell at all but is trading it in two days if it is not sold. My father had one and put 288,000 miles on it. Overall, it was excellent. He changed the oil with Mobil One every 7500 miles and the result was an engine that still performed liked new and didn't consume oil at that high mileage. Biggest expensive repairs were transmission replacement, and a major tuneup including coil packs. If he had serviced the trans like he did the engine, it would have lasted much longer... make sure this is done. Also, watch out for rust... its still a huge problems with these cars, much more so than earlier models. Peel back the door seals, look all over the body for bubbling, and check the front suspension spring perches if its a 2WD model. All in all, despite the W210 being one of my least favorite modern Mercedes, its a good reliable car. Get the best tires you can afford. Make sure they will do all you need in your environment. From my perspective, this model year is smack in the middle of the no buy, why did they hire untrained simians, are these supposed to be dodge or benz, cars? Value really depends on what you want to do with it, where in the nation you happen to be, and how desirable it is in your locale. I know of a few people who head to LAX to pick up audi all wheel drive wagons, drive them up to SEA and then make a few grand on them. Very desirable in the great northwet, not so much down in the valley of glitz. clay On Jan 5, 2013, at 2:21 PM, Robert Koziak wrote: The seller was very willing to let me take it to a mechanic which I am arranging for Monday. Thanks to all for the feedback! I am not sure I know what comand climate control is. Are there different types of climate control with different models? Sorry if its a dumb question. Also I should have clarified the not hard sell a little better. I was watching the car on ebay and it was also listed locally for 10 days. We conversed back and forth with emails and I asked if he would accept an offer. At the beginning he told me the car was going to be traded in if it did not sell and would consider offers at the end of the auction. -Original Message- From: Rick Knoble rickkno...@hotmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sat, Jan 5, 2013 5:22 pm Subject: Re: [MBZ] Opinions: 1999 Mercedes Benz 320E 4matic Wagon Dark Blue w/tan interior Mitch?
