Great feature!!
It will make good use of our failing washboard and pothole asphalt
infrastructure and this feature might also enable better use of the
failing railroad infrastructure, turning railroad ties into wonderful
roads.
It is great that fedgov came up with such great idea!  We need more
fedgov for more better ideas.

I vaguely recall BMW was working on wind turbines at around the same time,
to replace the alternator for performance reasons.  I can't imagine that
would work well in stop-and-go, though, and I couldn't find the article in
a few seconds of searching.

generate electricity for electric cars.

The company announced the BHO3 tire at the Geneva auto show and said the
tire offers the possibility of helping recharge batteries of electric
cars by converting heat from the rolling tire into electric energy.

Most electric cars have a range of 100 miles before they must be recharged.

These concept tires reimagine the role that tires may play in the future,
said Joe Zekoski, senior vice president and chief technical officer at
Goodyear. We envision a future in which our products become more

I think if all cars had a windmill on top that could generate 
electricity to run the motors we would see huge fuel savings.  Let's 
suggest the idea to Senatah Malahkey to push some legislation through!

OK - they are trying to capture heat and turn it into electricity - that
would be a Peltier chip. You could also capture the flexing of the tire as
it rolls and becomes flat at the bottom with a piezo-electric chip to
generate electricity, or do both! Of course, there will be losses getting
the power out of the rotating tire . . .
