Factory says pull and replace together. With an auto trans, you must
be vewy vewy careful on re-assembly if you leave the AT in the car.

I used a Chinese hoist and load leveler (to tilt the engine, not level it)
when I R&R'd the engine/tranny in the 450SLC (not a light combo)- much
easier than with out the "leveler" as I've always done it before. The
"leveler" didn't bend, the crank tried to bind, but a shot of white lithium
grease
Having a couple of friends along to help with such things, makes most
jobs
go faster. Most, not all. ;-)

Engine and transmission together, using either a good A-frame hoist
or a proper engine hoist. Not that much physical effort, and in some
cases, it's not possible to put the top bolts back into the tranny
once the engine is in place (W115 300D for instance).

the proper way to do it on a MB is pull the engine/trans together. Much
easier that way.

Buy a car that doesn't need to have the engine taken out 3 times. hee hee.
Really, if I had to pull an engine out of a car twice, I'd only be
reassembling it to sell it, and replace it.
Having a couple of friends along to help with such things, makes most jobs
