Its true... you have to attend to learn the secrets.

Its buried deep the the engineering menu. I'd guess I'm one of the few
people that remember its still there!

Re: [MBZ] Question for Jaime about COMAND system in 2006 E320 CDI (and for others, too)

2018-12-17 Thread Jaime Kopchinski via Mercedes
I was actually considering one of these before I found my W140 last
month... I think they're quite good cars. Electronics wise they're fine,
but like any complex modern cars you're best off investing in a OBD2 code
reader. And there are still lots of electronics to rely on compared to
cars 20 years older.

Dwight answered the COMAND question... since they're Becker units, theres
still service available for them.

Good luck!
Jaime

2018-12-17 Thread Dwight Giles via Mercedes
I can't answer for Jaime but I do know if I go way into my Command system
his name is there as one of the engineers who designed it.
My 2005 E320 just had to have Command system replaced # 167k miles. 300 or
so dollars, for the part plus, about 1 hour labor from my regular MB Indy. I
don't use the navigation so I have not updated the map disks.
YMMV

[MBZ] Question for Jaime about COMAND system in 2006 E320 CDI (and for others, too)

2018-12-17 Thread Craig via Mercedes
So I have been looking at the 2006 E320 CDI shown at

https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/d/super-clean-mercedes-turbo/6772652250.html

That looks to be a good example of that year and model, but I'm still
concerned about what I might be getting into with it.

How reliable are the electronics in this?

If something fails, how much would it cost to fix?

Would I need a computerized analysis system to find out what's wrong?

What Baumuster is it? W210? W211? W212? W220?

How susceptable is it to rust? (The area in North Carolina to which we
will go just got about a foot of snow ...)

I'm still trying to figure out what we really want, but this vehicle
looks like it would be one which holds its value for the resale market.

Or am I all washed up?
