Those HF flare nut wrenches are great...so long as the nuts were so
loose to begin with that you could have got them off with an open end.
If they're good and tight, the things will spread out and maul the line
nuts to where getting them off turns into a major project.
I'll cheap out on a lot of things, but not flare nut wrenches. The good
ones will pay for themselves in saved time and aggravation . I learned
that lesson the hard way.

2007-09-12 Thread Scott Ritchey
I think I got my metric crowsfoot flare nut wrenched from JC Whitney, maybe
15 years back. They were not expensive. They were also not fancy. Each is
a flat chunk of metal, maybe 3/16 or 1/4 inch thick with a square hole for a
3/8 in drive and the hex for the nut.

I have had no problems with those, maybe because they are so beefy. However
I have had problems with cheap smaller flare wrenches in brake lines.

Bought a 17mm crowfoot from Matco years ago but was disappointed because it
was too big to loosen the IP nuts separately on the 1967 200D and the
injector lines had to be taken off one at a time. Just now looked at it
closely and it's a Snap-on! Went out and checked it on the '83 300D and
found that it will work fine with plenty of room around each nut.

When there's room I have clamped a big vise-grip over the

 solution.

What fun would that be?
Mine is a regular 17mm Craftsman socket with a bolt welded to one
side, and a slot the width of the injection line ground into the
opposite side. It's worked great over the years, but doesn't fit the
60x engines! The 2 60x engines I've worked on have enough room to use
standard open end wrenches.
