When I order car parts, I generally have a long list of very specific
items. I don't mind calling to discuss it after sending an e-mail, but if
I have to list all of the parts over the phone it will take a long time,
and there will almost certainly be mistakes in the order.

This is why I've never ordered anything from Rusty (as of yet). But I'm
putting together a parts list to e-mail him, and then plan to call to make
payment.

Sure seems that way, but there are a lot of businesses where phone calls
and face-to-face still rules, and car parts seems to be one of them.
Try communicating with ANY salvage yard or parts business over email.
You're luck to get a reply, and if you do it will probably be "call us".
Not justifying it other than to say that's the way it is. I'd guess
because it's just easier for the typical shop to pick up the phone and
call their parts providers -- rather than get to the PC, start up email,
type a message, wait for a reply, etc.

Email delivery by the way is not "guaranteed"; failures are rare but it
is certainly possible for a message to simply vanish into the ether
without a trace, one reason could be a misconfigured server between you
and the recipient.

Actually, I think phone is best, but if you have a long list, get on
the IM and then paste your list into the IM.

I can't remember ever having Rusty ever get an order wrong. When I
tried to order form the website, I got mistakes. Next place is to
email the list and then call. Last place is to email a list and forget it.

Sure seems that way, but there are a lot of businesses where phone calls

Try communicating with ANY salvage yard or parts business over email.
You're luck to get a reply, and if you do it will probably be "call us".
Not justifying it other than to say that's the way it is. I'd guess
because it's just easier for the typical shop to pick up the phone and
call their parts providers -- rather than get to the PC, start up email,
type a message, wait for a reply, etc.

Email delivery by the way is not "guaranteed"; failures are rare but it

Re: [MBZ] Rusty AWOL?

2009-05-01 Thread tyler
When I order car parts, I generally have a long list of very specific
items. I don't mind calling to discuss it after sending an e-mail, but
if I have to list all of the parts over the phone it will take a long
time, and there will almost certainly be mistakes in the order.

This is why I've never ordered anything from Rusty (as of yet). But I'm
putting together a parts list to e-mail him, and then plan to call to
make payment.

I'll stand by sniveling but could ammend it to lazy if you'd prefer...

If you want good service you call, thats true pretty much everywhere. Companies
are deluged with emails, many legitimate many many more that aren't. Its
difficult and expensive to wade through them all in a short timeframe so for a
lot of smaller companies the email side of things slides while the phone is
very immediate and now and gets the attention.

We Americans amaze me, we want absolute rock bottom (cut me own throat) prices
but then also require instant service and we don't want to pay for shipping. I
put we in there because I'm guilty of it too. This is all a big part of the
current financial crisis and exactly why all of our good jobs have gone to
China, our overarching desire for stuff drives all the sense out of us...

Wow, great customer service (I'm sorry to start with sarcasm).  Comments
like "Email is a way for people to snivel without having to fess up to
it" are the perfect comment I would use right before I hung up the phone
at a shop that just screwed me.  They usually get me in trouble and I
have to be sat down by my boss and reprimanded.  I don't like that
happening, but lazy people piss me off.

The problem with the 21st century is that Email is the preferred way of
communication, it's traceable by time and content.  Phone calls
generally need a disclaimer to be recorded for future use.  Rusty
provides excellent customer service on the phone and less than average
electronic service (I would love to help him fix that).  I've tried
other sources for MB parts because of better electronic service, and
gave that up about 2 years ago and have stuck with Rusty since.  He only
started emailing invoices within the past 2 years give or take.  David
has every reason to expect an email reply from Rusty and implying that
he is sniveling is hitting below the belt.

David, please call Rusty and talk directly to him about this issue
before any more comments against or for his excellent service are made
on the list.  I will personally vouch for his services and support.

Because if he does owe you $200 worth of stuff and you are not getting a
response from email, the logic would say to call. Calling up there is
usually best anyway as Rusty seems to get behind on his emails.

[MBZ] Rusty AWOL?

2009-04-30 Thread David Bruckmann
Gang

Is Rusty away or something? I've been trying to get an answer from him for
three weeks on a product that I was charged for but which never was shipped. I
doubt it is an email issue, since he has no trouble taking the orders by email,
yet my emails to him have gone unanswered... I'd rather not have to ask the cc
card company to claew back the payment...

Anyone else talked to him lately?
