Roger, you're still in the early stages of this wonderful and terrible disease (Dieselitis Maximitus, Mercedes-variant). Kaleb is prime example of what waits for us in the terminal stage: an uncontrollable urge to buy each and every "cheap" MB diesel that appears for sale, coupled with a complete

It's an SDL for goodness sake. Sell it for $500, cut your loses now, and move on:-))) Get yourself a good 116 and you'll be happy and won't be working on it continually. It seems from reading the stories on this list that the newer the car, the more time and parts are needed to keep it running.

Based on my recent experience with the 240D very rough idling, a new transfer (lift) pump may be in order. I am not sure if the 603 ones are rebuildable. On disassembly of the pump, the valves looked like a grinder. Dont forget the hoses into and out of the fuel tank as possible culprits.

Replace the IP pressure valve holder seals. A job I need to do on the 300d, it causes knocking at idle, rough running, and hard starts. Also check the suction lines and heater lines on the fuel system up to the IP, and the o-ring on the suction line to the lift pump - - intermittent air lea
