Based on my recent experience with the 240D very rough idling, a new transfer (lift) pump may be in order. I am not sure if the 603 ones are rebuildable. On disassembly of the pump, the valves looked like a grinder. Dont forget the hoses into and out of the fuel tank as possible culprits.

Replace the IP pressure valve holder seals. A job I need to do on the 300d, it causes knocking at idle, rough running, and hard starts. Also check the suction lines and heater lines on the fuel system up to the IP, and the o-ring on the suction line to the lift pump - - intermittent air lea

So I got all the nozzles rebuilt with Bosio nozzles and get them back in and the car fired up today. I also installed a different valve cover to see if that would cure the oil blowing from the turbo. Anyway it still runs like hell and smokes like hell for about 5-10 minutes when cold. After that
