Re: [MBZ] Several Barn Finds in NJ
you might want to tell the sellers there is no such thing as a 1958 MG-TD. It is definitely a TD, but in 1958 MG was selling MGA's. The TD started around 1950 and ended around 1954 - I say around because there were no hard rules for determining the model year of a vehicle. My 66 MGB was built in 66 but was registered as a 67 because that's when it left the dealers lot. Things were standardized in 1968. Anyway tell them I'll help with their MG research if needed. Re: [MBZ] Several Barn Finds in NJ
I managed to get the 1966 230 started today with an external fuel tank. It was a little reluctant at first, but once the fuel was flowing through the carbs it idled pretty well. It pulled out under its own power and was lined up with the rest of the cars. It didn't smoke or knock, generally gave a good impression. Its a good car... rusty on the floors, but a lot of positive points that make it worth saving. Someone who wants to do some metal work would have a nice project. The 220Sb turns by hand and with the starter, but I couldn't get any fuel to flow through the carbs. I'm sure they're just gummed up. It did run on ether, however, a few seconds at a time. The clutch hydraulics were gone, so getting it running didn't really help with moving it around tight corners anyway. The Becker tube radio worked too, after it warmed up of course. The 1966 250S wasn't going to start... someone had removed the plugs and I couldn't get it turned by hand, so I didn't try any further. Given how easily it started and well it ran, I haven't concerns about the engine. It didn't show any blow by at idle, so it's likely an issue of messy breather hoses. There were plenty of high mileage cars there... I don't suspect any reason it's not an honest car.
