W123 300TDT Mercedes Wagon Euro Spec - $2800 (Baker City, OR)

1983 mercedes benz 300td

condition: fair
cylinders: 5 cylinders
fuel: diesel
odometer: 191446
title status: clean
transmission: automatic

Hey there,

I have a W123 300 touring diesel turbo Mercedes wagon European spec. OM617
engine, automatic, thistle green with dark green cloth interior.
It runs but does not upshift to third. A certified Mercedes mechanic says it
does indeed need a new transmission. I have owned her for four years and done a
lot of work to get her running, but needing a new transmission is out of my
league both time and money-wise. So I'm putting out the feelers. If you have
knowledge of this vehicle, are looking to burn some cash, and need a project,
this would be a great car.

It has manual windows and manual climate control. It has a US front bumper and
Euro back bumper with the option for self-leveling lights. Manual sunroof
works. The third-row seat is almost pristine. Oh, did I mention the horn? There
is a country horn and city horn setting.

The good:
-Recent valve adjustment
-All new filters (including tank)
-New primer pump
-New glow plugs
-New shaft seal of the power steering pump
-New door actuators and vacuum connectors (locks work, turns off with key)
-New hood insulation
-Interior is nice, minus rip in the driver's seat
-No blow by, cap doesn't dance

The bad:
-The vacuum pump is reading at 17.5hg, should be at around 20hg - so a new pump
would also be good.
-There are small spots of rust, especially under the battery
-The back was hit at some point, is dented, and has rust
-Needs a paint job
-Needs new tires
-No AC

The ugly:
-Needs a new transmission (I have checked everything - modulator, kick down
switch, solenoid, bowden cable) When I changed the transmission fluid and
filter it smelled burnt and there were many chunks of metal in the pan. If you
buy it and fix it without putting in a new transmission you win all the things.

If you are interested, send me an email. I have more photos if needed.
