I used that same tool on my rounded drain plug. Very effective.

I have a similar set I got at Harbor Freight. Very good when the fastener is so
rounded off that nothing seems to bite.
Another option can be to weld a nut onto the fastener so you have a clean hex
head to get a wrench on. Assuming you have a welder...

oil drain plug was Buggered up by previous owner. I tried a wrench and socket …
then I tried a pipe wrench and even vice grips ….
