While we are on the subject of sharp pointy things, my darling wife got me a beautiful Japanese sword for Father's Day - and I'm not even her father. We saw it in an antique store a few weeks ago and I thought it very nice even when I suspected it was probably a plastic knock-off. Too much $ so I didn't even ask them to take it out. After having looked more closely the best I can tell it could be old ivory - or perhaps aged bone - and the sheath is rather heavy; about 3' long. The blade is made of a single piece of steel [not folded steel] and it is quite sharp.
