Re: [MBZ] Tandem Pump

2014-08-07 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Thanks for thinking of me Fred, but I'll pass.

The tandem pump I found/pulled at the yard in Richmond a few weeks back has
been installed for about 1500 miles now and doesn't leak a drop. That pump
came from a '93 wagon. $35 IIRC.

When I removed the original leaking pump from my '95 E300, I found that one
of the mounting tabs cast into the aluminum body was broken. I saved the
piece and plan to repair with JB Weld. I've got the MB rebuild kit for the
pump, so it will become the spare. It's very hard to find a pump from a
E300 at a reasonable price.

So a gasser pump was a direct replacement?
You have a '87 diesel wagon, right?

[MBZ] Tandem pump TD and TE

2006-03-07 Thread Loren Faeth
My TD (87) and TE (88) both have Vickers Type 119 tandem pumps. I set out
to rebuild both, as the TD pump is leaking and the TE does not have working
hydraulic suspension when i got it. I took out he TE pump and disassembled
it without special tools.

There are 4 bolts holding the pump together. (13mm wrench)
The rear pump is PS and it is a vane pump. Be very careful to keep all the
canes in the impeller as you disassemble. If a vane does come out,the worn
part of one face should be on the counterclockwise side as installed, and
out of the impeller.
The impeller is held on by a circlip. Once the circlip is out, the
impeller will come off the shaft and the bottom plate can be removed.

The front pump is the suspension pump, and it has 4 piston pumps driven by
a cam. To disassemble, remove each pump. I used two 3/16 pin punches and
a screwdriver between them to turn each pump out. The pump has a brass
body. Repeat for eeach of the 4 pumps. Be careful not to loose the piston
and spring as you remove each pump.

There is a roll pin holding the shaft seal retainer in the housing. Remove
the roll pin with a 3/32 pin punch. The shaft assembly will now come
out. Disassemble and pay attention to which side is up as you take the
pieces out. There is another roll pin to remove the cam. it is
directional: there is a small hole on the upper side, or rear facing as
installed in the car.

You are now ready to remove the seal and replace the parts in the kit. I
don't have the kit yet, so I can't talk about the installation/reassembly
yet. More to follow.
