I need new tires for the Jetta (or will soon anyway) and wonder about the size. Its got 195/60R14 on it now. Tire rack says thats an original size as was 185/60R14. The 195s look pretty fat for such a small car, do you think 185 will matter much? -Curt ___

I might have trouble finding much taller tires than the 195-70-14s that are on it now. Tire Rack shows several brands of 205-75-14 but couldn't find any 235-?-14s. Gerry Just so it's clear, 205 is the _width_ of the tire in mm. 75 is how tall the tire is expressed as a percentage of width.

I'm going to dissent here. I have 205/60-15s on my 124 and am fixing to go to 215/55-16s (on lightweight CLK wheels). I think the wider the better (as long as they don't rub or stick out, of course). There's more steering effort at low speeds, but also more controllability at high speeds.

One last comment (from me anyway) about tire sizes. The 124's require tires rated 91 H. Some tire models, like Bridgestone RE 950 at 196/65-15 are rated 88 H. So I selected the RE 950's in 205/60 to get that rating up to 89 or 90 H (I forget which one). The attraction of many tires at 215/60-15
