The thermostatic idle air valve on our 450SL needed re-adjustment with a hammer.
The plug in the body had started working out, meaning it no longer was all that
thermostatic.
You could adjust it for cold-start. Or warm running. But not both. After the
'hammer cure',
it worked properly again.

That I don’t know. A rebuild kit for the FD is around a $100 and probably a
couple hours worth of time. Need to see what Larry charges to rebuild them for
comparison purposes.

seem to have improved. Still hesitates when cracking the throttle quick and
will sometimes die after returning to idle after revving it
