Maybe. What I was reading showed I could have the VPN from my router so all the traffic from my LAN could be through the VPN. That is one device with VPN, but any number of devices on the LAN. But it is also only one VPN link opened. That could easily be worked around if a tunnel, or VPN was setup between my house and your house. Then my internet traffic could be set to go into your house, then out through the privacy/anonymous VPN service we are sharing the cost of. My outbound traffic would show up for you as both download (my house to your house) and upload (your house to internet). The reverse for my downloads - they would all pass through both your download and upload. Re: [MBZ] VPN, not political
For your ISP, yes. However, the VPN provider can log your traffic (and many do), so if there’s an issue Johnny Law could subpoena the VPN provider’s logs to see what you were connecting to. Your ISP sees the VPN session and can see your ingress point, the VPN provider’s IP address, that is. I use a VPN primarily to give my ISP the finger over seeing my traffic and selling the data. Between that and using tools like Ghostery and adblockers I rarely get stuff related to my Internet wanderings. I also use DuckDuckGo for my searches. -D > On Jul 12, 2020, at 10:25 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes > wrote: > > On Sun, July 12, 2020 10:12 am, Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote: >> Private Internet Access might allow that, I think the subscription covers >> everyone in a household. >> >> I use them because they don't keep logs. > > Not keeping logs is the whole point of VPN, isn't it? > > I would assume that when you're running the VPN's client software on a > device, the VPN doesn't care if that device is in your household or not, > just that there are no more devices on your VPN account at any particular > time than you're allowed to have. > > Like when we had a 3 device Netflix subscription, she could be in the > bedroom Chromecasting the TV from her phone, I could be in the living room > running the TV, and her dad could be in a truck stop in Texas watching his > phone, and only two of those devices were running on my household's ISP. > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

TOR isn't a VPN, though is some ways it is similar. It is no cost, open source, de-centralized privacy network. No promises about fast, completely uncertain where your packets will exit into the clear internet. This means in won't necessarily help if someone wants to use Tic Tok (hacker pipeline to chi co m) on a network where it is blocked. It might, but no certainty like is possible with a VPN. As others have said, rarely is anything really free (no cost). Re: [MBZ] VPN, not political
VPNs can and do use port 443, it's a common tactic to "blend in" with https traffic. You could try to watch what IP address it's connecting to, and block that. But that can become a game of whack-a-mole because the provider probably has more than one IP address. Allan Dan Penoff via Mercedes writes: > Probably. Re: [MBZ] VPN, not political
Probably. You just have to know what port they’re using, or just block everything outside of 80 and 443 and the usual email (25, 465 and 587) ports. A lot of VPNs use UDP 500. VPNs will often use different ports and IP addresses, so it’s really a game of whack a mole. If you know what VPN client or service he’s using it’s a bit easier, because most will allow you to get a list of their public IPs and then you can blacklist them. Private VPNs make us crazy at work, because we’ll see someone logging in from Tampa and then five minutes later they’re polling the mail from Las Vegas. Makes all sorts of alarms go off, so we have instituted a policy of no private VPN use for connecting to our network. -D > On Jul 11, 2020, at 8:41 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > Oh I am well aware of that.
