Re: [MBZ] W115 Fuel Gauge Misbehavior

2011-05-19 Thread Tim C
My sender got mostly somewhat better with biocide. Also probably the
generic diesel additive or biodiesel for a few tanks would help clean
up grit etc. I'd forgotten about the issue, my sender is fairly
reliable now that you mention it but was bad when I first got the car
(bad algae infection). I did not drop the tank nor pull the sender,
just used biocide, but there were other evidences of algae so...

If it were me, I would just put a gallon of diesel in the side of the
trunk, if it's not rusted out*, and try some additives for the summer,
though the previously-recommended cleaning solutions are definitely
the thing to do if you want to fix it and forget it. (*Okay, that's
not true, I was carrying 5 gallons, but 1 should do the same job. :)

There is a four inch round port in the trunk floor, center with lines
going in and out to the passenger side. Pop off the top and you have
access to the fuel sender unit. Careful with the filament wires.

2011-05-17 Thread Dieselhead

order a new gasket form Rusty

LIft the trunk mat.
Remove the round cover more or less in the center of the trunk.
You should be able to see the top of the sender.
Remove the 6? screws and the elect. plug, then pull the sender out
for cleaning/repair/replacement

Assemble in reverse order.

As I recall, there's a hatch of some sort in the floor of the trunk.

Hi All, We've been nursing the W115 fleet along quite nicely...with one

of removing the tank, is there a quick access to the sender units in the tank,
