Actually I think you and Kaleb are right. I thought the FASTEN BELTS
light was working properly but I just checked and it it not.
The BRAKE light works with the parking brake as it should. The brake
wear light, which looks like (O), comes on momentarily when the key is
first turned on. The FASTEN
It does that if you have the wrong bulb holders stuck in the wrong places
:-)

Yes. What's weird is that it also is working normally as the FASTEN
BELTS light. Maybe I have a bad ground behind the dash somewhere.

Does the W116 use the FASTEN BELTS light as a brake wear alert?
In my '79 300SD I am seeing that light come on with moderate/heavy
braking (not light braking).
The light pulsates at first and then becomes steady as brake pressure
increases.
