They are underpowered for the chassis. #1 boy drives the early w140 version,
which gets terrible mileage. May as well get a V8 and power, since you are not
saving cash at the pump. That said, you will save on valve related things and
heads, since there is but one. The '99 will have good
M104 in a w123 with a 5 speed sounds like a very interesting project!

Isn't it the same v6 as my 1999 e320?
The M104 lasted in the 140 all the way to the end. Nice engine but the

Unless you can find an S280 with a stick like Princess Diana.

You didn't mention the color, which would be a very important factor
influencing whether I would bother to even look.
Also, since it's not a diesel, the high mileage is a potential disqualifier
regardless of color

The M104 is almost as robust as the OM603, neither has lower end
problems at less that 500k miles unless abused. All the troubles I
know about are valve train or head gasket related. You should not be
able to wear them out in normal use.
A six is a bit underpowered for that chassis, but
It's a SWB as far as I can tell at this point. I haven't attempted to decode
the VIN yet.
S320s don't seem to bring all that much around here, probably for the reasons
one would expect - comparing them to an S500.
What I found weird was that Kelley and Edmunds' prices are pretty low on these

Great color and good price. This black LWB '99 S320 with 178K miles is
going for $4,700.

Oddly enough, I have an opportunity to buy my old wagon back for cheap, now

I have two older W140s in my current fleet, both with over 270,000. This has
around 180,000. Hardly broke in by my standards.
Looks like we might not be able to get together this weekend, which works for
me. If it’s still for sale next weekend I’ll be able to drive a harder
I was always very pleased with the M103 powered cars I've had, so I'm sure the
M104 is as good or better, especially a 1999 model.
I'm not a big one on speed or aggression when it comes to driving, so having
the six versus the M119 wouldn't really matter a lot to me. In fact, never

Only problem is leaking front seals so far as I know, and the fix

A bigger job to change a heater core than a W124 though, my brother is
most of the way through doing that right
