Agree - I would have thought the ML would have been a perfect fit for a
diesel -

Also - in Europe, I read that over 1/2 of the S class new car sales had
diesel engines.
That would be my dream MB - a 96-99 S Class with a large turbo diesel -
The ultimate in luxury. I know the W140 is supposed to be vault like -- and
never having driven a W140 or the newer S CLass (W220?) I can't really speak
from experience but I would suspect the newer S Class would be close to the
W140 in luxury and ride quality - probably not as good build quality as the
W140 but it'd be nice to have the option. I'd like to see some on the used
car market -

Oh well - I wonder of MB listens to the public?

I don't get MB. You'd think they'd start putting diesel engines in more
cars. I know that folks who buy a new MB can usually afford to put
gasoline in the tank, but at the same time, there must be a large cross
section that would like to be able to say they get really good mileage in
their new XX class MB. Donchathink?

[MBZ] Who SHOT Wulf?

2006-04-24 Thread Christopher McCann
I am still rather stunned that I found a BULLET hole in the roof of the SD
this morning. It is near the edge of the roof. Went through one layer of steel
and stopped. Did not go through the roof. Unbelievable. There is NO WAY it
could be anything else, the hole is perfectly circular and sheared off totally
- no residual metal...maybe someone used a laser gun!? Actually, it's 9mm, I'm
certain. Will take it to the cop shop at lunch just to have the satisfaction
of having their corroboration that it is indeed a bullet hole.

I think I will have it filled with clear epoxy so I can show the battle
wound off. I am still stunned. There are alot of idiots out there. I figure
the car was shot from an overpass.

incredible. We can add this to our safety issues for a Benz...semi-bullet
proof (depending on where shot!). Ugh.

Bad way to start Monday morning. Well, now I can say Wulf has been through
the war!

I'm not. IIRC, 9mm has more than a little bit of penetration ability,
unless this was a wild shot at the end of a long trajectory. It's the
same diameter slug as a .38 (or .380) more or less, so just the hole
size

won't tell you a lot.

Once upon a time a certain family ventilated an abandoned hulk with a
large variety of hole-makers, and it was very instructive. The absolute
best hole making, through and through, was a basic .22 rifle.

Agreed, could be a .380 (9mm short) - actually, I took a .380 round, stuck it
in the hole and concluded it was a 9mm. In either case, the diameter of the
bullet is 9mm. But it still could be a standard 9mm becuase of where in the
roof it hit...alot of metal under it in that part. I may be able to extract it
later.

 Actually, it's 9mm, I'm certain.

The absolute
best hole making, through and through, was a basic .22 rifle.

have local law enforcement extract it and do the forensics on it. you may
have a shooter in the area you may not know of.

I would hope they would at least add it to their database - so it can be
searched in future investigations -or, perhaps there have been shootings in
your neighborhood and thiis bullet is part of it?

You never know what the authorities will do - and in Ca, the politicans are
suggesting all ammo be microscopicly etched with certain info - even though
it's expensive, impractical and will yield few benefits - so maybe that's
the final piece of info needed to finish an investigation and make an
arrest.

You never know until you try.
