Does optional vs standard make a difference? Rear side bags are an
 option on the 2010 E 350

About $700 (a guess) is the difference. My W203 2001 C320 had four door
bags and curtain bags as standard. TeleAid was also standard.

For the W204 rear bags became an option as did TeleAid. I skipped both. The
side bags are now in the side of the front seat and fire forward. In some
markets the driver gets a knee bag but not here.

I would think the W212 arrangement would be the same. Crash tests (barrier
and side impact) are on YouTube.

I've also noticed that Benz never rates well in the crash testing,
usually because they don't crash one.  Severe downgrades for not
having active traction control whatever the h that is and no
 side impact airbags.

I don't know where you got this because side bags and curtain bags have
been used since 2001.

Side (front) bags were present before 1999 in the 210's; 1999 saw the
addition of curtain bags. I think rear seat side bags came in 2000.

The funny thing is that the control module has the squib outputs for 4
side bags even in 1999.

Big deal. My C320 has eight bags although they don't look much like those.
