I think it's because everyone, at one time or another, has had an old
junker where the door wouldn't latch unless they slammed it.

The last door to be closed on a w210 must be shut firmly or it won't
latch fully. I attribute this to the quality of sealing around the doors.

A w126 didn't mind firm closing, although properly adjusted doors don't
need it. To my mind there is something WRONG about a car that won't let
you shut the doors completely yourself (*cough*w140*cough*) ... why not
just go all the way and make a johnnicab?

Do the females in your life slam car doors much harder than needed, as the

Talking about breaking things, within a week of me having the 230E the
Missus had smashed both seat belt buckels. How you ask? Well she has a
female way of undoing the seat belt, which involves twisting it in such a
way that it does not retract and the male part of the buckle ends up in
the
door and when closing the door gets smashed. Just one of lifes little
annoyances.

Howdy -
My wife does that too - but usually, the belt twists and hangs looking
funny. Fortunately the seat belt buckle has only gotten caught in the door
once - made a heck of a racket when she pushed the door closed. Thankfully
she didn't rear back and really slam it hard - probably would have broken it
also -

BTW, have you found a supplier of replacement belt assemblies?
