There are actually quite a number of trouble codes that can be set that will not trigger a chack engine light. There are individual pins that allow you to dump codes on a number of different computers, and only those codees that directly relate to emissions are passed on as check engine. For the best info on M104 codes, take a look on www.mercedesshop.com forums for anything authored by Steve Brotherton (?). Re: [MBZ] re;Knowledge & Kaleb C. Striplin
People are strange. I collect (well, really accumulate) fountain pens, and some yahoo on one of the discussion groups won a rather nice solid gold Sheaffer Snorkel on eBay, and then SENT THE PEN BACK because it was shipped a week later than he expected (and overseas, too!). He had the temerity to complain about getting negative feedback from the seller after leaving a "flamer" negative feedback himself! Not quite clear on the concept, eh? I don't suppose he thought that getting something shipped overseas insured is a routine matter for a private seller. Enough to make you swear of contact with other humans sometimes! Re: [MBZ] re;Knowledge & Kaleb C. Striplin
There is no problem, only a lister not being happy with the service he got from this list. I don't see that as a problem but just part of life. This reminds me of the Ohio man, who is the Ohio man you ask? The Ohio man is rude and obnoxious American whom we met in Santorini (a little island in Greece). The story is that we went to breakfast one morning in a little cafe and a couple of tables across from us where some other travelers, seeing that they spoke English we introduced ourselves. From memory there where a couple of girls and a bloke from Ohio. Can't remember their names and hence we call him the Ohio man. Anyway the reason we remember the Ohio man is because when the waiter brought them the menu the Ohio man kicked up a big fuss because something on the menu was not available. "Why haven't you got this? If it is on the menu you should have it." and so on, making the waiter feel not so good as he tried to explain that it was the end of the holiday season and they had run out of a lot of things and would not be restocking until the start of the next season. Anyway after Ohio man left we consoled the waiter that Yanks are somewhat different and he agreed that they could be quite rude if all their needs where not met. Let me try that again ... hit a "bad" key and the message went prematurely. It will probably be MOOSE DAY somewhere when the game ends and my Hokies have kicked BC's butt. Or someone like I know but am so buried with work that I don't have time to answer. We used to have a great resource on the list (remember Marshall?) but he has disappeared. I often wonder if the list became too demanding. And your last point is absolutely correct, if a list member believes we owe him an answer than my best advice is for him to drive down to a local shop & pay them hourly for the answer he wants. Hendrik or Fay (whichever one posted the response) is correct. If your CIS system will not pass emissions then there is no adjustment that you can use to "fix it". A engine running slightly rich is unlikely to produce a trouble code, a two O2 sensor system may do but the early one O2 sensor ones are relatively stupid. Further I think that if there is a code stored in the system then the check engine light will be on, telling you it is time to spend money. They should replace that check engine light with a check bank balance light, perhaps something like this: *$ *James Zavesky wrote: > Robb Taglieri > > Your original email was answered on 9/17/07 by Alex Chamberlain who has a > diesel. There was a kid from So. Cal. too. Gabe maybe? Re: [MBZ] re;Knowledge & Kaleb C. Striplin
Some years back, not long after I joined the previous list, there was a guy who would wax eloquently for many pages about random stuff, and take extreme issue with trivial matters. I think large amounts of whiskey and being from California might have played a role in his musings, as they tended to show up late at night. Anyway, I think he got kicked off, or maybe went to rehab or AA, after suggesting to someone (Marshall?) "that you, sir, can stick your thumbs in your ass and walk on your elbows" after about 3 pages of rant about some disagreement on something trivial. I found his stuff somewhat amusing, like the stuff you see the bums over by the freeway write on their signs, but I guess whoever was the list mom got fed up with it. That image was pretty funny though. --R Kaleb C. Yes, I did have to kick somebody off once, and only once. I cant remember all the exact details but the guy ended up sending a post cussing us out or something. Then is seems I had to put somebody on moderation status and they didnt like it so left on their own. Thats the only trouble we have had. Funny how the RE list has to have such strict rules etc and kick many people off. --- Kaleb C. Kaleb, Maybe I should remind you of what the list is about. It is about sharing ideas and helping to troubleshoot 14 year old cars... whether I paid for the listing or not. If I paid for the listing up to this posting being "Now" very helpful but for yours I'd be disappointed with the response. This posting has gotten alot of feedback: The feedback I was hoping for. Maybe Kaleb, practicing alittle respect for others and trying to be helpful may even help you in your own business. Remember, this list was developed to help guys like me and small shop owners with other guys experiences from around the country chiming in. Smart ass's were suppose to be kicked off.
