I’m in the process of cleaning out this 116 450 fuel tank. The first step was I
took it down to the carwash with the sender and screen out and power washer it.
Next I reinstalled the sender and screen, duct taped the hose connections, and
filled the tank with 10 gallons of vinegar. The plan was
I think I got it all out. I ended up just running water out of the hose
alternating between the fuel sender and the main hose connection while holding
the tank up shaking it while the water flowed out of the filler neck. Now I
think I will dump a bottle of rubbing alcohol in it to try to remove
It sounds like there are still a few chunks in there but I’m calling it as good
as it’s going to get.

I took the tube off and the inards completely disintegrated. Need to locate a

Next I will clean up the fuel sender for the 116. Hopefully it’s able to be
saved. I have not taken the tube off yet. Should I take it off and let it soak
in the parts washer for like a week, or maybe let it soak in something else
before I start cleaning on it?

These older floats are pretty delicate. I would disassemble it and see what
kind of shape the insides are in and clean as appropriate.

believe I have one laying around as it appears to be only for late gas 116.

They might still be available new from MB. I just bought one for my 108.
Took apart the old one and cleaned it (with DeOxIT) to keep as a spare.

Anyone have an old 2.42 diff from a 126? The USA sel cars had LSD, but not
critical. Mine is whining. I guess I could put new bearings in and see if
that fixes it, but I wonder if it is a bearing or gears that fail.
