It actually has some of both. It's a pretty solid chassis and based on recommendations from trusted mechanics it's on the same level as the W210s as far as maintenance and upkeep. I'm looking at a CLK500 right now, and it's mostly the same systems as a W210 with an M113 engine. No SLKs later than 2005 (R170). The R171s are technically far more complex and expensive to maintain. I'm focusing on CLK coupes now, as she has no need for a convertible. She's never put the top down on the SL500 since she's driven the car.
