I've seen hoses covered with a piece of PVC pipe split lengthwise then hose clamps applied to keep the pipe in place. Mostly it depends on what the hole looks like. There are lots pf different hose repair kits available - do a search and see all the different methods. Might find something to work til you find a used/new hose or repair yours... The silicone tape will seal nad bond to it's self, but isn't really strong. I'd wrap that with a strong tape, then put a hose clamp over both layers of tape. On Mon, Sep 3, 2018 at 3:04 PM Kaleb C. Barbed union fitting and two hose clamps? Cut the hose, right through the hole, put a clamp over each half, stick the union fitting in there, tighten both clamps, and pray that shoving the fitting into the hose didn't make another weak spot rupure. [MBZ] Emergency Power
(From another list) I was amazed when my 1200 watt ($99) quasi-sine inverter on the Prius 12v battery would start and RUN a cheap $89 window AC unit (5000 BTU). The measured load when running was only about 700W. And it has been shown that one can draw up to about 800W continuous from the Prius 12v system without any consequences. A member ran this way for a week on a (13 gal) tank.. not sure if the load was continuous, but his study showed the fuel consumption was about the same as for a good Honda generator, and I think that was about 4 kWh per gallon. Hummh. At 700W times 12 hours that would be around 2 gallons. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Mitch Haley wrote: If the Prius would charge the battery at a highly efficient throttle setting by starting and stopping, it could probably beat a single cylinder engine running non-stop at light load. G: That's exactly what it does. The display is constantly showing one of several conditions: Engine driving only, battery driving only, engine and battery driving, rotating wheels charging battery, etc. Go uphill and engine cuts in with any excess energy going to the main battery. Going downhill the engine stops and the wheels charge the battery. On level ground the engine will constantly be switching back and forth between engine and battery depending on speed. Slowing down the wheels are charging the battery. Floorboard it and both the engine and main battery kick in. When setting in one place with the electric air conditioner on, the engine will run for about a minute charging the battery, and then there will be a long period when the AC is running only on the battery. There doesn't seem to be any observable difference in fuel consumption. Gerry A few weeks ago there was a discussion about the possibility of reducing the AC voltage of the motor-generator to household voltage and using that for emergency power, but I didn't follow it. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

The reason to choose liquid rather than air cooling has to do with heat density and the easy of moving hot liquid to some remote location to cool it. In a stationary system, there are a few more options for where and how the heat is dumped to the air, so it might be easier, cheaper, simpler, or safer to use air cooling - or maybe adapting the existing liquid cooling would be fine. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Emergency Power
Compressed air in the works for Canadian wind power storage. Dan Chapman wants to put a fridge-sized battery in an apartment building and fill it up with electricity from solar panels on the roof so that at night, there’s plenty of power. Or, a grocery store could lower its power bill by using the super-size battery to store power at night when the price is low and use it in the daytime when electricity rates on the grid soar too high. Calgary-based TransAlta is bringing this new technology, made by California-based electric carmaker Tesla, to Alberta as part of the province’s push to increase the amount of renewable energy in the province, says Chapman, TransAlta’s chief engineer. The biggest problem with renewable energy like wind and solar is the unstable supply — when the wind dies or clouds move in, the power stops, says Mark Summers with the government research agency Alberta Innovates, Energy and Environment Solutions. So the agency put out a proposal call, with a $250,000 prize for each winner, for new technology to solve the storage problems, smooth out supply and develop technology appropriate to Alberta’s private electricity market. Chapman was in California this spring when Tesla unveiled its revolutionary local-use big battery technology and made a deal to bring the new product here. (Tesla also unveiled a smaller version, called a power wall, that lets a homeowner store energy right in the house for use later.) TransAlta hasn’t identified a business or apartment site to test the commercial use of the big batteries to be built by Tesla. But it will install batteries at its Blue Trail wind farm near Fort Macleod. The idea is to prove the batteries are capable of smoothing out the wind power supply by storing the excess power which could also be sold when electricity is at peak demand times and thereby maximize revenues. If you don’t like the idea of large, expensive, chemical-based batteries, there’s another option — compressed air modules stuffed into shipping containers. Nova Scotia-based Unify Energy won $250,000 for a compressed air project in that province using new technology also from a California firm, Light Sail. GFCI devices do not need a ground to work properly, nor are they concerned about the potential on the neutral. They are only concerned about the balance of current between the line and neutral wires. In a nutshell, don't do it. If you're so inclined, break out the circuits you want on the generator and isolate them with a knife switch or load rated disconnect. The backfeeding approach kills people. I have been an expert witness on more than one occasion to defend a generator manufacturer from litigation when people have done this and been killed.
