Re: [MBZ] Glove box latch adjust

Actually, it didn't feel like it was adjustable, rather it felt like I
forced it. So just wondering out of my sense of curiosity.

I'm pleased you mentioned it. I've fiddled endlessly with the hinges on my
glovebox, moving them in and out to get the confounded door to shut flush
with the dashboard. Fat chance.

But here's a question. What's the tool called which fits the slotted nuts of
the hinge on a W123 300TD's glovebox door?

You know, I didn't think to try to adjust the hinges. I just thought to
adjust the latch. I will look into that.

Euan, you have a 5 speed, manual transmission wagon? That's a nice
automobile.

Yeah, hinges, bumpers, and latch hook all are adjustable, along with
attempting to rebuild and/or tighten up that weak pivot and spring
mechanism inside. Hours of fun, fun, fun! I hate the 123 door,
though it _does_ make a nice place to hang a hooked cupholder.

But here's a question. What's the tool called which fits the slotted

I call it: Needlenose pliers. You can also grind an old screwdriver.
I've heard it called a spanner (though that's not the Brit definition)
or a pin wrench, though both may be misnomers.

[MBZ] Glove box latch adjust

2006-05-17 Thread Zoltan Finks

Anyone know if the glove box latch (the part that receives) is adjustable? I
think I just did adjust it, whether it was meant to be or not.

The door was not closing tightly enough to have the side surface that the
driver can see be nicely concealed. So I loosened the two screws and pushed
the receiving part of the latch toward the front of the vehicle. Tested,
then did it again. It helped noticeably.

Sounds like it is. That door is one of the worst features of
the 123, it is often a mess. It doesn't seem to hold up well,
and once the latch (in the door) stops working right nothing
seems to bring it back. I've fiddled with these a _lot_.

You're right, I've wasted valuable bandwidth and keyboard wear-and-tear.
