Sure it is a problem, if...
It is a problem if we believe the chatter about jobs and manufacturing
fleeing USA. Someone mentioned, however, that perhaps the round-trip
on this might be on the order of return to USA when we get sick of
inexpensive junk and when jobs are sooo scarce that nobody can afford
stuff here so manufacturing and jobs return? I ?think? I like James

Johnsens is made in China also. I really don't think it's much of a problem.
Btw I went to the farm store who has it on sale and they did not have any in
the next town over. I got to go to another town in a little bit and will check
their store.

Well let me know when you are going to be rolling thru. We can work on
your ac and you can load up all the parts you can carry.

Now that sounds like a deal! I don't know when we will be rolling
through. We moved to the house we are now renting south-southeast of
Santa Fe because the landlord was going to build a large garage in which
we could unload our furniture van, repack boxes of poorly- or
not-at-all-packed stuff, and then reload it.

Now that the construction was to have already commenced, we find out that
the contractor (part of a nation-wide company) the landlord is using is
hemming and hawing about when he will get started, which looks like no
time soon. In addition, another couple in the area have sold their home
and would like to move in here. Our landlord would like to rent to them
and wants us out of the house by the end of September. I could put up a
fuss, but it really is in our best interest, now that I have completed my
classes in Albuquerque, to find a suitable place as soon as possible so we
can start the process of unloading, repacking, and reloading our
furniture van without delay.

So, I am looking for yet another place to rent temporarily.

Have you replaced the 124 yet?

No, I think we will wait on that until we are in Indiana.

[MBZ] R134 stockpile

2013-06-22 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin
I have been stockpiling r134. The local farm store has 30lb tanks on sale for
89. Normal price 119. Last time I bought it this cheap was several years ago at
sams and since then like 149 it seems. I got 150lbs on hand now. I may buy some
more but that should hold me over for a long time. Most of my vehicles are 134,
don't have a lot of r12 stuff but I do have about 30lbs of that also.

Good idea, since it may soon go the way of R12 in favor of the new
high-pressure extra-dangerous stuff, R1234.

Top up? If the unit is low but working, I'd say it's worth a try. If
the unit is empty, don't waste you money! Empty A/C MUST have a
vacume pulled on it to dry the system out.
Also a waste not to find out whyn it's empty, It must have a leak, fix
it or open a window

Helps if you share Car make, Model Year with us.

I used to have the 134a level adjusted every 2 years on my 300SDL as preventive
Maintenance. The tech would draw vacuum for 1/2 hour and refill. It worked
fine, cost about $30.

I agree with a later post responding. You should likely have the vacuum pump
hooked up for a while. We tried to do
my old MB and the pressure is too high for it to suck the gas in. We just
wasted a couple of the small cans trying.
My brother in law can bring the vacuum pump from his work but we have not done
it again yet.

Re: [MBZ] R134

2008-07-23 Thread Peter Frederick
You can just add more with one of the adapter kits sold at all McParts. It
will have a low side fitting and a can tap (and they even sell a large can with
attached fitting for one-shot use).

Hook up to the low side with the compressor running and freon will slowly
migrate from the can to the system since it's boiling out of the can. I use a
bucket of warm water (NOT really hot water!) to speed things up. Keep the can
upright, a slug of liquid into the compressor can be very bad for it.

However, if you have a leak and need to do this more than say every couple
years, you need to have the R134A recovered by someone, repair the leak(s),
properly evacuate, and fully recharge. I'm not a big fan of a simple vacuum
and recharge, you really need to find and fix the leaks. Otherwise, air and
water are continually leaking in, and this will eventually eat a compressor
and/or corrode out the condenser.

To properly evacuate, you must run 30 mercury for at least 30 minutes, it's
better to run for an hour, to remove the water. It has to vaporize and then
diffuse to the pump, so it takes a while. 29 is really too low, it will take
forever get the system dry, and anything less you really are wasting your time,
the water won't come out of the dessicant or PAG oil. I have a used Edwards oil
bath rotary pump that's great, except that it will overpower a small leak and
you can't tell other than it clicks once in a while as a bubble of air comes
out of the oil. A smaller pump will never reach full vac if you have a leak.

[MBZ] R134 freon sale at NAPA

2008-06-04 Thread JFreezn
NAPA's June ad has R134a small cans for $6.49 each in 3 different flavors.
I particularly like the Sub-Zero can which contains 2 ounces of synthetic oil
and 11 ounces of R134. The synthetic oil is supposed to improve efficiency
up to 18 percent (compared to What, I don't know.) If you are feeding a
leaker, you likely need to add some oil too, or your compressor will lock up.

They also have it with stop leak or with UV dye for leak detection.

NOT on the ad, but sitting on the floor were 30 pound cans of R134 for the
incredible price of $79.95. That's less than 3 bucks per POUND!

No license is needed to buy R134
