[MBZ] That Gullwing

2007-01-06 Thread Dimitri Seretakis

I called about that gullwing for sale @ Aston Martin
Dealership. $320,000 and it's probably sold. I would
of thought maybe $150,000 tops in that shape. I
remember a pristine 300SL convertible for sale in the
late eighties for $90,000. Guess these cars have
really appreciated.

A very nice red unrestored but non-rusty GW sold at the televised Barrett
Jackson (?) auction for $325K last week. The seller also had a matching
300SL roadster that fetched about the same $$s. Both were one-owner cars!

very much doubt you could by this barn car and do a proper restoration for
$325,000. but I guess that holds true of most restoration projects when
compared to buying a car that someone else has done the work on.

Hi Andrew,
Those were spectacular GWs all right!! The fitted luggage was especially
impressive - with the lower suitcase curved to follow the shape of the
luggage area.

Although the Gullwings are better known I believe the Roadsters were better
drivers. I hear the GWs get oppressively hot due to lack of ventilation.
The Roadsters are pretty attractive also IMO.

I believe the auctions aired last week were from a year or more ago - the
new auction starts on the 13th.

Larry,

Thanks for the info. Is there an easy way to search the Barret website to
find completed auctions for a particular car year and model, e.g.,
Mercedes 1970 280SL, without flipping through those dozens of web pages?

2007-01-05 Thread LarryT

Hi Andrew.
On the left hand menu, bottom item, click Results and you will be allowed
to enter MB and 280SL - I entered Mercedes Benz and SL and got 2 results -
both 1970 280SLs and neither had a price but different Lot #'s.

You may need to play with the search criteria a bit.
