Re: [MBZ] The Most Dangerous Job in the World
I found the C-2 catapult launch from Enterprise quite disorienting, at least in the passenger area in back. The C-2 COD (carrier onboard delivery) is essentially an E-2 Hawkeye without the radome. Like most military passenger setups (not jump seats), the seats face aft and there are no windows. The catapult delivered about 5g's, which is interesting when you are facing backwards, "hanging" in the straps, with no visual reference. My earlier C-1 COD flights off Kittyhawk were much less violent but those boats sure look tiny from the air. Both of those carriers are now "retired". I feel old. > -Original Message- > From: WILTON via Mercedes > Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2016 11:26 PM > > No, I've never flown off (nor onto) a carrier. > > W > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] The Most Dangerous Job in the World
When one reviews the encyclopedic range of accomplishments by the C-130 Hercules and its valiant aircrews over the years, surely one of the most astounding took place in October 1963 when the U.S. Navy decided to try to land a Hercules on an aircraft carrier. Was it possible? Who would believe that the big, four-engine C-130 with its bulky fuselage and 132-foot wing span could land on the deck of a carrier? Not only was it possible, it was done in moderately rough seas 500 miles out in the North Atlantic off the coast of Boston. In so doing, the airplane became the largest and heaviest aircraft to ever land on an aircraft carrier, a record that stands to this day. http://theaviationzone.com/factsheets/c130_forrestal.asp Landing and takeoff video: http://www.defensetech.org/2011/11/09/pic-of-the-day-c-130-flies-off-a-carrier/ WILTON wrote: > What?
