Re: [MBZ] My kind of shady deal! 2004 Mercedes-Benz M-Class · ML 350 Sport Utility 4D,$1,800

2020-08-16 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Yup. Same thing. Mercedes doesn’t sell the sensor any more, you have to buy the
whole steering shaft ($400) which I’m not about to do. I’ve cleared it in SDS,
done the lock to lock thing, no joy. I had a buddy who trolls junkyards get me
three of the sensors and I’ve swapped two of them in, and neither fixed the
problem, so I'm assuming it’s something else related to the BAS.

Again, beater truck, I’m not sinking any money into it. Does’t affect the
drivability, so I’m ignoring it.

I had a ML that did that. The error code was for steering sensor I believe and
it just simply said to turn the wheel from lock to lock, but that never fixed
it.

Not for sale, buddy. Not at this time, at least.

And other than the random three light alert it goes through every few weeks it
runs fine. I would drive it anywhere. I’ve tossed several steering position
sensors on it and it still throws the BAS light constantly, even after clearing
the fault. There’s something wonky in it with ABS/BAS/whatever.

Re: [MBZ] My kind of shady deal! 2004 Mercedes-Benz M-Class · ML 350 Sport Utility 4D,$1,800

2020-08-16 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I had someone offer me $1600 for the $1300 ML500 beater truck the other day. I
was sorely tempted, then realized that I will probably need to tow the E420 to
the paint shop in the near future and it could easily do it, so I passed. It’s
parked a block away at a friend’s house who is TDY in Monterey, CA for at least
another year.

Rear bumper prices have increased on these to about $350. Mine is a shattered
mess, but I’m still not motivated enough to spend the dough to replace it. If I
did I would probably keep it for sure.

Re: [MBZ] My kind of shady deal! 2004 Mercedes-Benz M-Class · ML 350 Sport Utility 4D,$1,800

2020-08-16 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I fired up the 05 $675 ML500 Special Edition (124kmi) yesterday (jumper the
starter relay at the fuse box, the ignition switch is buggered, $25 to replace
it but I’ll wait until I get a title sorted out) and took it for a quick spin
on the road in front of the vast estate, just for the hellofit. It’s REALLY
nice, AC BLOWS ICE COLD, very tight. The 500 has some good power. I really
like it. I got all the codes cleared and everything works except one rear
window lift appears to be broken. I think I saw those are a PITA to fix but not
particularly expensive for the lift. Could probably get one from a junker too.

I sent off another check for the specified amount to vermunt, now just waiting
to see if it gets laundered or if I have to deal with my TitleMax boy. If that
works out I might replace the plastic bumbers that are a bit crunched and I
think I’ll get a heavy duty hitch for it and call it good. Needs a good
detailing too although it’s pretty clean, might pay some local to do that.

Definitely sketchy. Sounds like roommate has the keys and is trying to
flip it for some cash, or owner stopped making payments on the loan and is
trying to screw the loan company.
