On Sat, 31 Mar 2007 21:11:15 -0500 Russ Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks Craig Let me know if that's insufficient. I do have the paper manual and could scan some pages. The basic procedure is to make sure the check valve in the engine compartment works. This then feeds the center connection on the master vacuum switch inside the driver's door with the line run through the firewall and then through the tube from the driver's door to the body. The two vacuum lines (lock and unlock) then go from the master vacuum switch, through the tube, and end up in the driver's footwell just in front of the seat. There they split off via tees (IIRC). The branch lines go to the left rear door element. The main lines then go to the outside of the passenger footwell just in front of the seat where they split off in cross shaped fittings. One set of branch lines goes to the right front door element. The other set of branch lines goes to the right rear door element. The main lines head to the rear of the car, where the fuel door element is teed to the locking line (it's spring return in the open position so if something fails you can always put fuel in the car). The main lines continue to the trunk locking element, which is underneath the trunk lock. It's accessable via a screwed on plate in the front side of the rear wall of the trunk. A MityVac is indispensable in troubleshooting. It's just about impossible to troubleshoot without one and only tedious with one. HTH Craig

Here is a diagram of the cabin vacuum system. I just took a good look at it and noticed that there appear to be some errors in it. The two pictures of the master switch in the lower right are labeled correctly (I still haven't put the inside door panel back on since I removed it to replace the driver's door gasket). The labels Unlocking and Locking in the top schematic, however, seem to be reversed, as do the blue and muddy green connections to all of the door elements. I believe the no-vacuum-fail condition of the gas tank element is open, that it requires vacuum to lock the fuel door. If you want, I can spend some time correcting the diagram, but the basic idea is already there. Craig P.S. Kaleb, don't approve the large message; it contains the same errors.
