Re: [MBZ] 240D Knocking

2007-04-12 Thread OK Don

There are two ways to used Diesel Purge - pooring a can or two into
the fuel tank, or disconnecting the fuel lines under the hood, and
running the engine solely on the Diesel Purge. The later method
(recommended) will not do anything to the filters. The first method
could clean stuff out of the tank that could clog the filters. The
second method (fully explained on the can) will do the most good in
the least amount of time.

Raving about Diesel Purge aside, there is a whole series of other
things that can cause this. It is commonly described as
nailing. Two of the most common causes, aside from crud buildup
are a bad injection nozzle or a broken prechamber. There is a little
ball supprted on a pin inside the prechamber. sometimes the pin will break.

John, I have the same car and have been hearing the very same noises you
describe upon cold startup. Normally I am alarmed by anything unusual with
my automobiles, but I have heard it said that these engines percolate and
crack and pop when started cold. BUT: Bear in mind that I don't know what
I'm talking about - so am I wrong, list, for not being alarmed? - should I
be worried by that pinging noise?

I see LT Don says diesel purge is the answer, though he says autumn follows
winter. ;)

Also, when running a diesel purge treatment, should one be equipped with
some fuel filters for when the gunk gets moved up the lines? And if gunk
plugs up the filters, will the engine quit cold and not start, or will there
be a warning period of poor running?

How does the slogan go? I have questions, you have answers?

To add: that first Diesel Purge treatment is a real experience. Before your
very ears, the car goes from sounding like an out-of-balance washer in spin
cycle to sounding like a Singer sewing machine.

Two cans, not one, though.

Ah, so sweet.
