Re: [MBZ] Columbus CL 240D
It's definitely in driving condition. This whack-job initially wanted $2400 for this car, but since he had no takers (and a pregnant girlfriend) I think he really needs to sell it now. I offered $300 last month and he didn't bite. He might bite on $500 now. To warn you, I think this car needs work. Last I saw, it was leaking fuel b/c the return lines were disintegrating. Also, when I drove the car the oil pressure gauge wasn't working b/c the PO before this guy disconnected the line (claims it came loose and spewed oil behind the instrument cluster. Engine and transmission felt strong (for a 240) - clutch was recently replaced. On 1/26/06, Kevin J. Slater <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Been looking for something for my son. Re: [MBZ] Columbus CL 240D
My question is, how much rust is throughout. You can clearly see some in the drivers door in the picture alone, and the pics are rather small :) Is the engine and transmission strong only for the car to disintegrate beneath it? I bet the $1.00 plastic ball socket in the throttle linkage assembly is busted. That can do wonders in limiting speed. I could do all of this, but I don't really have the time or money to keep running out to this guy. inline wasn't a see-through filter, but it was all MB parts under the hood. My niece and nephew-in-law are desperate for reliable transport, and a 240d is pretty much indestructible if you keep it full of antifreeze and oil.
Re: [MBZ] Columbus CL 240D
I wouldn't bet on that. I have driven for probably 10 years or more at a stretch without having a plugged filter. As long as fuel prices are stable. I had a filter plug after a bad load of fuel in 1988, and then didn't have a problem until 99 or so. I have had 3 plugged filters in the last year. I don't believe I ever had a plugged Diesel filter even in the 74-75 era. Had lotsa of problems with Gasoline then. If the car is serviced according to the book, and filters are changed as scheduled, it is entirely possible to have an MB for 10-12 years and never encounter a plugged filter until now. At 04:22 PM 1/20/2006, you wrote: Either a shutoff valve or fuel filters I'd guess. this guy is a car repair shop, and he's selling it for someone else. car has a lot of rust on the driver side, no radio, tear in the driver's mb-tex, but has power locks and seemingly functional A/C. Bosch alternator, block heater, warning triangle, 14" fuchs Bundt wheels, starts right up, and that sweet orange paintjob. 215Kmi, but the engine looks good. Car won't go above 25 MPH.
