More than anything else it will ruin your visibility in rain, it will smear
something horrible as the wax starts to wear. Won't
do the wiper blades any good, either, and it's impossible to get the wax off
them, you will need to replace them.

Peter, who has a very smeary windshield thanks to the PO and rain-x.

I would try (in order):

- cleaning the windshield and blade with a mildly abrasive cleanser (I
use Bon Ami because of BMW legend that says the company issued an
official service bulletin recommending it at some point)
- cleaning the windshield with a grease-cutting solvent with a high
flash point (lacquer thinner, acetone, etc.), then rinsing with dish
soap (don't get either on the paint if you can help it)!
- replacing the wiper arm. Still available as a new part from M-B, or
at least it was a few years ago when I replaced the one on my '87
300D. The spring inside gets tired and doesn't hold the blade as hard
against the glass as it's meant to. Also, when you say you've
replaced the blade, do you mean the metal part or just the rubber
refill? The former wears out as well. All this made a huge
difference in wiper performance on the '87.

More than anything else it will ruin your visibility in rain, it will
smear something horrible as the wax starts to wear. Won't
do the wiper blades any good, either, and it's impossible to get

I have used Rain-X since it first came out and was sold through dealers, a la
Amsoil.

You have to apply it per the directions, and do so exactly as described. Two
coats to assure proper coverage, and a good buffing afterwards with a lightly
dampened cloth.

I use it regularly, and have done so for many years. The only complaint I have
is at low speeds in light rain, when there isn't enough air velocity to move
the water off the glass.

I've tried Rain-X, and found it to work quite well for me. Used it on my

bottle was empty I decided to forgo the product as I didn't really want to
spend the time applying it.

so time to get outside. Washed and waxed Blue (the '95), and decided to

out Wilton's trick of waxing the windows along with the rest of the car.
The windshield, which is new, really seemed to absorb the wax (didn't haze
that much with just one coat), but the side and rear windows hazed over

wait at least a week or two before I find out!

BTDT with two cars, one with a PO who was Rain-X-happy (I know because
he told me) and one with a new car that had been sprayed all over by
the stealer's minions with something wax-oid.In both cases lacquer
thinner took it off nicely with no apparent damage to the glass---I
was careful not to get any on the pant, of course.
