I know, I'm a natural skeptic too but I've seen it work really well to find all
sorts of things.
Neither of us has done an dowsing for pay, its one of those things, would that
be like killing the golden goose? The guy that taught me was the grandfather of
a kid I was in Boy Scouts with. He was a professional dowser and went to a lot
of places where they'd had trouble finding water and always found it.
I'm not opposed to thinking that theres some force that we don't know about yet
thats at work here, after all there are forces we use every day that have only
recently really become understood. It wasn't so long ago that radio was
"magic"

Count me a sceptic.  I'm pretty sure that any random spot in your example had
good odds of producing water, and extensive (expensive) testing would show
that.  You and your father probably have good local knowledge of the hydrology
in your locale, the dowsing rod is, in my opinion, simply a way to let your
subconscious mind communicate its best guess.  Fly your dad to a random locale
that he has no knowledge of, and I'll bet that the odds of his dowsing success
would be exactly the same as randomly picking a spot.

So, does it work for finding water?  Sure!  Maybe one can find other things
too, but all dowsing really is (in my opinion) is a way to make your very best
guess.  Like any skill, practice makes perfect, so I'll bet that your dad is
very good at it.  Can he turn it into an income generator?  THAT would be fun!

I've never had much luck with a forked stick though dad does that too

Dad and I are both real good at finding water. I remember once he was finding
water for a friend, he looked around about a minute and found a real good spot
but it was right where the septic was supposed to go. We hunted around a bit
more and found another spot. I said 200 feet, dad said 300. The well driller
hit at 250, he knew my dad and wasn't real surprised...

What is the best material to use for dowsing?

The barn here has electric electric outlets and lights but we are
unable to locate the power feed from the nearby warehouse onsite.  In
the barn the feed comes in from under thr concrete slab.  The 3-wires
are in conduit.  The 3-wires are 600V direct bury cable to which
standard 120V inside wires were attached, but are currently cut.  So
the wires in the barn are currently connected to an extension cord
with male 3-prong end, i.e. the means of electricity for lights and
outlets could be provided by a generator.  There is no generator
onsite.  The warehouse appears to have a couple of possible buried
feeds or breaker panels that might have been the power to the barn but
so far - no luck finding the breaker panel or path of buried cable
run.  Dowsing seemed the next best means to find the feed... maybe?

Hey, now, that's a good idea.

But, they may locate only lines up to the first breaker panel. You will
have to ask.

going to do some construction and you need to find various lines. guy

Recommend you get a toner set, which generates a radio signal using your buried
wire as the antenna. A receiver comes with the tool, move that around in the
area you suspect that the unknown end of the wire is located. Gets the job
done. I think Harbor Freight sells a cheapo version?

No need to resort to witchcraft...
